Depends.. If you want to test files on your pc yes there are some software required else you dont need anything
Apache http://apache.org Apache 1.3.x is good. Apache 2.0 isnt too stable from my experince with 4.3.2 with PHP.
MySQL http://mysql.com MySQL 4.x is good
PHP http://php.net Get 4.3.2 and not PHP 5.0 as its only a beta
