localhost query

when i installed apache, i set the domain name as my company's domain eg: SERVERNAME.COMPANYNAME.co.uk

now when i try to run the famous test.php script, it will only run if i type in the browser or run box:
http://localhost.test.php

and not if i type
http://COMPANYNAME.co.uk/test.php

can someone explain this to me please?

Did you mean

http://SERVERNAME.COMPANYNAME.co.uk/test.php ?

It should only work if you use

http://SERVERNAME.COMPANYNAME.co.uk/test.php unless COMPANYNAME.co.uk points to your server.

so does this mean that all php scripts, such as the test.php, need to be on the SERVERNAME, but when you use localhost, you can have them on your machine?

because i haven't installed apache on the server, i installed it on my local machine - does this mean that the php scripts need to be in the htdocs folder on the server machine?
