Need help with Imagemagick URGENT !!

Hi!

i just realize that my new hosting company didn't have GD2.0 installed.

Do some search and view that's another option : Imagemagick

But i didn't found a thread that explain simply the use of Imagemagick.

Here,s what i have to do:

My client upload picture (jpeg :: size 1600x1200).
I want my script take the uploaded pic, resize it to 400x300 and create a new jpeg ... after that, delete the upload pic.

Can someone help me with that ????

tutorial ??? explication ??? start script ???

ImageMagick consists of very important executables that can do different image manipuating functions. The one u r interested is called convert.

i'm very new to this so i've got few question for you :

if i understand, filename is the upload file. But what's 'tmp_name' ...

guess that 'name' is the name of the file i'll create.

I recommend you go and read the file uploading section in the PHP documentation

basically, 'filename' is what you put the variable name in the HTML form. $FILES['filename']['tmp_name'] and $FILES['filename']['name'] will be automatically created and contails the server path to the uploaded file and the name of the file in the client's machine respectively.

ok now i have an upload page and when i submit it ...

i don't have a new jpeg file but in my tmp folder i've got a file like this.

have you a tutorial or an simple full exemple to give me cause i really don't understand ...

for the upload it's ok i've got one.

Hey, I am not sure what is that you dont understand. Heres is a working example.

NOTE that this script assumes that the ImageMagick binary 'convert' is available without its path. If the script doest work, please post it result.

ok i got it ..... thanx so much for your patience ... i'm very busy right now !!!

Last thing : when the script create the jpeg, is there a parameter to set quality of the jpeg ???

HA, its must be ur luck day. lol. jus add -quality flag to the exec line: so

$cmd = 'convert -quality 65 -scale 400x300 '. $_FILES['usrFile']['tmp_name'] .' ' . $path2save. $_FILES['usrFile']['name'];

also remember that exec() is a better choice than passthru() since it wont output anything to the user. Also once u get everything working, you can delete the echo $cmd line.
