[Resolved] Must backslash "["?

Hi all.

Hopefully this will be a quick question and answer. I have the following line in my PHP code:

$quote = "[b]Today[/b] at $time_posted, $posted_by wrote:\n[quote]$quoted_message\[/quote]";

Without the backslash before the [/quote] tag, I get a T_STRING error 🙁 I need to prevent the backslash being quoted but am out of ideas how to prevent that. Do any of the PHP gurus here?

try this: i had to replace and

and the closing tags with [b1] and [quote1] cuz the forum was converting it

$quote = "[b1]Today[/b1] at " . $time_posted . ", " . $posted_by . " wrote:\n[quote1]" . $quoted_message . "[/quote1]";

well, try using single quotes and then for variables exit out of the quote:

$thingy = '[b1]'.$bolded_text.'[/b1][quote1].'$quoted_text.'[/quote1]';

Thanks for that but the code that stolzyboy posted did the job. I did try posting back to say thanks but I wasn't able to connect to the PHP Builder server for some reason 🙁

Should be like this if I am not mistaken:

$thingy = '[b1]'.$bolded_text.'[/b1][quote1]'.$quoted_text.'[/quote1]';

you had .' when it should have been '. 😉
