[Resolved] porting mysql to mssql

Hi!
I have to add mssql support to a mysql projekt and - frankly - have no idea about the first.

Problem:
How do i get the column titles out of a table?

in mysql i simply query "DESC tablename" - what does the query have to look like to work in mssql?

sorry to bother you with that crap. sigh
if theres any good online resource around where i can read the stuff up by myself i'd be most interested as well.

You will have to get freetds and install it...hopefully you downloaded source for php and compilied it because you will need to recompile it with sybase support with a reference to freetds.

I have it installed and it works.

instead of putting mysql_connect, you would put mssql_connect and so on.

If you have problems, let me know as there are a couple of gotchas when doing this. The documentation is very good.

Hi!

I take it there is no solution on SQL lvl, is there?
The company I'm doing this for is running a win-box and I don't think they'll gonna let me play around with the php installation...

The thing anger does to our productivity:

mysql DESC code:

$sql_query = "DESC tablename";
$results = mysql_query($sql_query);
$arr_results = array();
for ($count = 0; $row = mysql_fetch_row ($results); $count++){
array_push($arr_results, $row[0]);
}

mssql DESC code:

$sql_query = "SELECT * FROM tablename";
$results = mssql_query($sql_query);
$arr_results = array();
for ($count = 0; $row = mssql_fetch_field ($results); $count++){
array_push($arr_results, $row -> name);
}

Not sure how I helped but glad I did.

Maybe the windows version of php already has mssql/sybase support built in. But in any case, the functions are almost exactly the same...minor modifications.

Once MySQL v. 5.x comes out, I don't think anyone will be able to argue that MySQL isn't enterprise ready. I already use it in the Airline industry....the largest airline in the world,....if that is any hint...but will be glad to see v. 5.x so that MSSQL Server will finally be beat into the ground and buried.
