problem with select the most recent date time of the record from table.

how can I choose the most recent date time from my database
My table looks like this:

id amount date time
1 25 2003-07-20 11:42:30
2 12 2003-07-20 16:25:30
1 16 2003-07-20 16:25:30
2 10 2003-07-21 09:50:31

As you can see id 1 has two record in the same day (but different time) and id 2 has defferent date record.
How can I choose the last updated date and time of id 1 or id 2.

Such as if the date hasn't been changed, I will compare the time. Otherwise, compare only date.
