Classes & OOP

Hey guys I've been looking at a lot of source code lately and have read here and there in the forums about classes and OOP. Now I have a general idea of what OOP is, but not a good grasp on it. One thing in particular is classes. Does anyone know where I can find some excellent information about OOP or can anyone just give some pointers?

Actually, php does not have pointers, it uses references (humor).

The PEAR (pear.php.net) classes are delivered with php. I don't really care for the way the base pear class was implemented but there is some good stuff in there. Learn to use their PEAR DB class to access databases and move on from there.

Well I found a good beginners tut. on classes (http://www.phpfreaks.com/tutorials/48/0.php). As I understand it (please correct me if I'm wrong), a class is a big "container" that "contains" a bunch of functions. When you need to access a function or something from inside the class, you do the following:

$var = $myclass->function_inside_myclass();
?>

Is that basically how they work?

You need to think of a class as an object that contains information and functions to work on the information.

You have the creation and calling process correct.
