Take away case sensitivie??

This is a code to keep people from voting for their own art. If my username is Shawazi in the database and I type Shawazi this works. But shawazi or shaWazi or any variation like that makes it not work. It thinks of it as a different name. Any ideas on how to fix this? Thx.

To make things case insensitive you need to chage the case of both sides of the test to either lower or upper. Now this means that if you have two users in your database with the names shawazi and Shawazi they will be thought of as the same user. So I'd suggest that you make your entire site case insensitive.

Thanks I will definately use that code. The database has username as primary key so no one will have the same name there. I knew a code like that existed but I couldn't remember where I saw it or what it started with to find it. Thanks

If your database is case-sensitive then someone could have the same name. Just something for you to check on.

eoghain is referring to the fact that if you haven't been checking case-insensitively already, then there might be a user called "Shawazi" and a different user called "shaWazi".

Oh I gotcha. That is impossible tho. The database is case insensitive. userName is primary key. So if there is a ShaWazi it would not accept any variation of shawazi. Although I still need to put a code in so it lets people know about that. I've been working on this whole site myself the past two weeks. Almost done! Check it out the link is in my profile. Art site.
