gas gauge graphic

I'm looking for a little help with making a graphic that looks like a gas gauge.

I want to pull data out of a database and display the results graphically. The way I want it to look is a gas gauge. With three or four different colors and a needle that corresponds to the result value I pull from a database that falls within the image.

For instance if I had a result of 90 out of 100 the "needle" would be pointing to the right of the meter. I've looked at jpgraph and it looks like he has something like I would want but only in the professional version, and of course $ is always and object with me.

I've searched and really haven't come up with a php answer to the problem. Any help would be appreciated or if more information is needed let me know.

Have you had a look at the GD Library capability that comes with PHP?

You can use the gauge as a background, then draw a simple arrow over the top of the original gauge. A simple calculation can be used to work out the number of degrees to be able to draw the arrow.

Also, the GD library and the necessary libraries that are required (JPEG, PNG, ZLI😎 are all free and quite easy to install. There are plenty of pages on this website for help.
