Problem sending values through sessions

hi. i'm quite a newby in php programming and i'm having a problem which i can't solve.
i use session to pass a variable value from one page to another. but when the second page is loaded it doesn't show the variable's value. if i reload the page the it does show it. (Note: my problem is not that i cannot view the information contained in the variable any time, but i can't look at it the first time the page is loaded)
i tried all the combinations i could find but i can't work it out.

a.php:
session_start();
$_SESSION['alfa'] = "BetaGamma";
header("Location: b.php");

b.php:
session_start();
echo $_SESSION['alfa'];

i'll be glad to hear all kind of ideas

Works fine here ... just the way you coded it. First page loads and redirs to 2nd which prints "BetaGamma".

Things to think about:

Is transparent session support enabled?

Are cookies being blocked?

Is the browser caching objects?

If no errors are being printed to the browser window, check the source code. If none there, check the server's error logs.

Are you trying this on a windows server at home?

Check that theses are set proprerly.

session.save_path =/windows/temp/session

; Whether to use cookies.
session.use_cookies = 1

Make sure you have a session dir in temp.

Try printing out the session_id() to try and see what is happening.
