redirect function

I have a redirect function:

function url_refresh($url, $seconds)
{
	echo "<meta http-equiv='refresh' content='$seconds;url=$url'>";
}

My problem is when ever I call it:

url_redirect(index.php,5);

it works and redirects the page but the page it redirects to is indexphp. It removes the . from the file. Any idea what might cause this and how I can do it right?

feldon, just because he's a newb doesn't mean you can post an answer without explaining.

ATLien, you're using index.php, which to PHP is two constants (index and php) that are being concatenated (appended) with the . operator. the value of an undefined constant is its name, so it's redirecting you to indexphp (as it should).

feldon's solution is the obvious one

But there's a way to do this with headers as well (which I did not know about until a couple days ago)...

header("Refresh: X; URL=Y.php");

where X is the delay in seconds and Y is the page you want to bounce to.

I don't think you can send a header after the page has already displayed stuff?

You can if you are using output buffering

Take a look at the details at php.net

It is one heck of a useful option

What you both said is true, but you can display stuff AFTER the header is sent out. So, say you had a 5-second delay, that's enough time for the user to read what's on the page (if you manage it well) before it bounces to the redirect.
