Display unique but show how many occurances of it

How would I display only unique entrys from a database but also show how many times it occured? Like say I have a stats system that logs IP's, how would I show each different IP only once but say how many times it occured? Thanks

I believe the statement

SELECT user_ip, count(*) FROM sometable WHERE ip = 'xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx';

would work....
but I dont think thats what you're looking for by your description....

SELECT
    DISTINCT ipAddress as 'ip_Addy',
    COUNT('ip_Addy')
    FROM ipLog
    GROUP BY('ip_Addy');

Will give you a result set containing two columns in each row: a unique ip address, and the number of times it occurred in the database.

I think before you enter an address into the DB, you should do a mysql_num_rows on the table and check if it exists if it does, either update the time or something or do nothing at all 😉 But if you already have repeat eneries, you should use some code to remove them and then use the method of checking before inserting, just a thought, 🙂

I would but with every page view I log the page they are on, they're IP, they're UserAgent, and the time!

And thanks for the suggestions I'll try them out!
