Getting URL from within Anchor Tag

I was wondering if anyone knew how to pull the URL's out of an anchor tag. I'm sorting through a bunch of galleries I have and trying to pull the links out of them for manipulation. Here's an example of what I want to do:

I would like to pull http://www.something.com/01.jpg from the URL. However, there could be multiple anchor tags on one line. I basically want to pull the first URL that ends with .jpg. However, I only want the URL line within a href. This gets to be a problem for those anchor tags without quotations. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

why would you have anchors without quotations? 😉

fix that and youve got no problem, just a simple ereg will do.

Sounds like a good job for preg_match or preg_replace.

This probably won't work first go but it gives you a start.

echo preg_replace( "/.+?<[aA].*?href=(.*?)\.jpg.*/","\\1.jpg",$string );

If you have ' or " around it just do a str_replace after the preg_replace

Realize that this is not technically an anchor tag.

An anchor tag is something like:

<a href="#chapter2">jump down to chapter 2</a>

Realize that according to the HTML4.01 spec (Chapter 12), it is - your example happens to contain a relative URL consisting solely of a fragment.
