[Resolved] Windows 2000 (IIS) & PHP

Hi,
I have installed PHP on win2k, using the zip file for PHP and followed the instructions on modifying the php.ini-dist.
I made a sample page with just phpinfo() in it and put it in inetpub/wwwroot.
I went to IIS setup and added php to the list of extensions (in Add/Edit Application Extension Mapping), set the executable to php.exe and later to sapi/php4isapi.dll. But in either case, when I try to access the sample page through http://localhost/phpinfo.php, I get "Page cannot be displayed".

I have tried restarting IIS, but no go.

What am I missing or doing wrong?

Well did you remember to rename php.ini-dist to php.ini and put it in the IIS folder? (I don't have IIS so this is just a stab at it)

Hi,
yes, I renamed it php.ini and, according to the manual, I put in the Windows directory (C:\winnt). I also made sure the dll's were all in winnt/system32.

Have you gone to the Web Sites Properties and set the ISAPI filter? If you haven't then that may be causing the problem. You should direct this filter to php4isapi.dll. If that doesn't work, then have you checked that Default Web Site does not say stopped beside it?

Finally check to make sure that the home directory in Default Website is set to where phpinfo.php is. The default is C:\Inetpub\wwwroot.

Also I am using IIS 5.1 for WinXP Pro, so some things may be different to IIS 4.0.

Thanks for the info. I had not set that up.
Does it matter what I use for the filter name?
Also, do I right-click <computer name>, under IIS, click on "Edit" in the "Master Properties" section, with "WWW Services" selected, and select the "ISAPI Filters" tab?
Or right click the "default web site", select "properties / ISAPI Filters"?
The first one has some ISAPI filters already listed:
sspifilt, compression, pwsdata, fpexedll.dll. I added "isapifilt" pointing to php4isapi.dll in sapi directory.
The second had nothing listed.

The problem was resolved after reading a post by jwallz on a utilty that graphically installs PHP:
