I want to change field type

What's the easiest way to change a field type via php?

I want to change it from text to date.

ALTER TABLE name CHANGE name name DATE

Backup before you do this!

If MySQL doesn't know what date to parse a field to, it will become 0000-00-00 and you won't have your original data to figure it out.

You can also do it by creating a new table with the structure you want and then doing insert into table select * from othertable
