search facility for html and php site

My website is a mixture of php and html pages

news items and diary pages are created using php and mysql, as well as some other database driven pages, the rest is static html

Whats the best way to create a search facility for this site?

Well, you could do it yourself, but don't some of the major search engines offer tools?

Lots of sites have their search form linked to Google these days ...
