Post to an existing HTML form....

Hey guys...

    I have a text pager... and the company that I got my pager from has a html web form that I can use to send messages from the internet.

What I would like to do... is....

Have my PHP code send me text messages via the html form....

ie:
MySQL Server is down.... the php page generates an error which sends me a page via the html form of the error,time,user so I can be ontop of things before things get out of hand...

ok... I'll cut to the chase....

does anyone know a way to "submit" an html form without actually clicking the submit button...

So basically you want to submit the form values to the company's script directly?

Ok you can achieve this using sockets, open a connection to the script and artificially POST the form variables OR u can use CUrl, which is a binary that can be used to POST data.

If you choose to use the sockets, its a lil bit of code. If u choose to use CUrl, it is seperate binary meanin it has to b configured in ur server.

Or you can "fake it" with Javascript, which actually has some benefits over a PHP-based POST (namely, the browser's URL bar is updated correctly). Check this out, a little program I wrote to let you mirror a form on any URL:

Notice the body onLoad= thing, that basically causes the form to activate as soon as the page loads (immediately after PHP builds it!).
