Good afternoon all.
With all that I have learned from this forum, I decided it would be the best place to begin my search for a better way to do what I am already doing.. (slowly and ineffectively)
I have a membership site that is growing rapidly, and do periodic email updates to the entire membership.
The Members records contain all their personal information including their email address in a MySql DB.
What I am currently doing is submitting a query and gathering all the member records, and then using eregi(), I am replacing placeholders in the body of the email that I want to send with their personal information to personalize the letter.
Problem is that we have had almost 2,700 new members register within the past 6 days, and the mailout is getting very slow, and I'm quite sure that there is a much more efficient means of accomplishing this task.
What I would like to be able to do is to write the email, and store it in a DB table, (to be used later for archives).
Then to basically Merge the letter with the member records and send out the email in the background so it doesn't tie up my browser. (2660 took 14 1/2 minutes this morning).
Any help or a direction to go would be greatly appreciated.
Doug
