Strip a post

I need some good quality help/code to stip a post for my custom made forum software I am building. It just has to be normal text as the outcome. This is to prevent users posting from putting in unwanted code/tables (html code, java, php, asp, etc) to ruin the page or put spyware in. Thanks alot!

Use htmlspecialchars($var) and addslashes($var) when adding post to DB or whatever and stripslashes($var) when its being displayed.
