Email Confirmation

Please keep in mind that I am new to php....

On a page of my web site, I will have certain files in which the visitor will download. To get to this download page, the user must enter a username and password. Once they are there, they can click on the file link to download it.

My question...

I need to send a confirmation email to myself when user using the username and password downloads a file. Saying basically...

"username" has download "this file" on "todays date and time".

Can anyone help me with this? Does anyone know of a script already written for this reason?
