Date troubles :(

I have a forum that asks for peoples Date of Birth. The format is pretty much standardized. I need something to help with dates prior to 1-1-1970. I have members that are over 50, so it is now necessary to deal with the whole unixtimestamp problem. Can someone point me to a solution? I read somewhere that only windows machines have this problem, but my server is a linux box and it is of course returning a unixtimestamp and it is having problems with the whole date thing.

Basically I just need to display their age based on the birthdate that they have given me. I was thinking all I had to do was basically 60secs x 60mins = 1 hour(in seconds). And then 365 X seconds in a day = 31536000. WEll that does not account for leap years and other little time quirks that sneak in.

Anyone know of a NON-OBJECT OREINTED solution?

If you are using mysql it should be easy.

SELECT name, birth, CURRENT_DATE,
(YEAR(CURRENT_DATE)-YEAR(birth))
- (RIGHT(CURRENT_DATE,5)<RIGHT(birth,5))
AS age FROM users;

This uses the standard DATE format 2003-12-31
