header already sent

Hi there all

I always get the same problem when I save my php files from ASCII to utf-8, it show that "header already sent" though it never be before
eg:

Warning: Cannot modify header information - headers already sent by (output started at /forum/common.php:1) in /forum/includes/sessions.php on line 182

but it's OK before save as utf-8

What was that? and by the way, can I create a file and save it as utf-8?? Anybody help meeeee. Thanks a lot!!

you have something in the file that's being sent to the browser before you use the header() function. It could be something as benign as a space or a carriage return, above your <?php tag.

If you still can't figure it out, post your code here, from the beginning of your code to your first header() function.

actually, this is a UTF-8 thing, as you assumed. the BOM (byte-order-mark) that is at the beginning of MOST utf-8 files, is invisible in the file when viewed, and counts as output to PHP. unfortunately there is no work-around as far as i know of, except to not save as UTF-8🙁

btw, can someone please tell me if there is any good reason to save as UTF-*(Unicode) if you're not using anything but english? is there any?

thank your BuzzLY, I was wondering that what was that, then I delete that character, but sometimes it doesnot appear in my editor, how could I delete it if I don't have a chance to post my code here to view it?

you could use a hex editor to view the file, then delete it for use in your PHP scripts.

would you mind telling some kind of that, though I delete the carried return, but it appears at the next time I open that file

what editor are you using? because this BOM isn't actually standard (i think) but many editors include it anyway -- you could switch if this is a big problem for you.
