With Mozilla/Netscape, you can type "php functionname" into the browser bar and go directly to the appropriate manual page, thus escaping the wrath of cranky people who tell you to RTFM.
Here's how to configure the browser to do it:
1) Set a bookmark to www.php.net
2) Hit ctrl-B to open "Manage your Bookmarks."
3) Right-click on the bookmark and select "Properties"
4) Edit the location so that it says "http://www.php.net/%s"
5) Put "php" in the keyword field and "Search the PHP manual" in the description. OK the result.
That's it. Now you can type "php session" or "php mysql" in the browser's address bar. Try it and see what happens.
Galeon (Linux) has a tool that lets you put extra search windows into the UI to do the same thing.
Incidentally, you can do this with any search engine, eBay, et cetera -- just get a working URL and replace the search term with %s.
