anyone have a db dump script?

hello all,
i was wondering whether any of you friendly chappies either have a script of your own or a link to a tutorial on an sql database dump.
needed greatly so i can transfer my site to a new host.

Create a file named something like dump.php with the following code:

`/usr/bin/mysqldump -u username -p password -h hostname -P port dbname > filename.sql`;
echo "Dump Successful!";

?>

Upload this file to your server and then run it by browsing to http://www.yourdomain.com/dir/dump.php

This will slowly but surely build a dump file with the name specified in the code, "filename.sql". After you've executed this code watch this directory via ftp and you'll see the sql file building in size. Once it has stopped it's done.

if i have the username and password, is there anyway to dump an sql db remotely from another site? as i have not got the ftp login detailia to do it locally

Nope, you need either ftp or shell access to your old server where the db resides to dump it.

You can do it via phpmyadmin if it's small. If it’s a large db you could try dumping each table separately via phpmyadmin.

i managed to get the ftp login,
starting dump....
hmm
i replaced:
username with username
password with password
hostname with localhost
port with 3306
dbname with dbname
and changed the filename to db_dump.sql
it did it instantly but the sql was empty. 🙁

any ideas?

i think it is just an error with the server, the admin is working all time so he dont get chance to fix it. ah well nevermind. ill just create the tables again, it wasn't losing data it was just losing the table designs.

sorry to bring this up again but i got this error when i ran the file:

Warning: Cannot execute using backquotes in safe mode in /home/virtual/site4/fst/var/www/html/PHP/db_dump/db_dump.php on line 3
