OK, well I've been making sites in HTML for awhile and thats all. I saw that one site I've been to has a whole page layout with tables and was using php. I saw that when I clicked one of the links, the url was http://blah.com/main/site.php?page=page.php and when i would go to just the page.php it would be the middle content of the site. So basically it would send page.php to the middle table but the whole layout of the site still be there. This intrested me in php and I really would like to know how this could be done, I have no idea where to start, can someone point me in the right direction? Thank you.

First set up PHP and Apache.

Then you make for example site.php and put there...

echo 'Stuff that will always show.<hr>';
include( $_GET['page'] );
echo '<hr>Stuff that will always show.';
?>

Next you make page.php or something and put there something, like: "This is page.php included from site.php"

Next you run site.php through your webserver (Apache) and put "?page=page.php" after it, like: http://localhost/site.php?page=page.php"

Then it WILL display...

Oh, wow, Thank you man. I think I can get somewhere from this. One quick question, why is that when I would just go to the site.php this shows...

How do I make it so that site.php would be the index without that stuff showing up?

Hmm... Yes that does work with nothing showing up now, but I really want it to show the content when you go to index.php instead of nothing and instead of having to go to index.php?page=news.php. Is it possible for a .php to show up in there when your at index.php but if you go to index.php?page=links.php the news will go away and links come up. Am I losing anyone? Thank you for your help!

This might help you to understand what I'm tying to do...

Thats my main layout, and that middle area is where all the content for each section will go and when you go to that, I want this to pop up without going to this url...

http://68.80.39.180/newsite/index.php?page=new.php

But I still want the ?page= to work for it if you know what I mean.

Hi. With the news.php and links.php files in the same dir as the site.php file, have the query string be site.php?page=links when wanting to include links.php in the middle of the site.php page. If no query string is present, then news.php should be in the middle of the site.php page.

Now thats the ticket. Thank you all for your help, It's finally going the way I wanted it. Now I'm understanding it a little, thank you once again.
