Upgrading Phone Software - damn 8250.

My Nokia 8250 is really irritating me. Why? Well, after you enter your SMS message, you normally go to "Send", and "Search" for the number.

(At least I do.)

So, I find the name, and press "OK" to put in the number. So what does my phone do? Only puts in the first 4 digits. Mobile numbers are 10 digits, dammit. :mad:

Not only that, it runs very slowly when accessing menu items for no apparent reason.

So I thought I might hunt around and see if there were any upgrades available for the phone OS. Has anybody ever upgraded the EEPROM on their phone before, and if successful, how did you do it? I'm sick of this problem - we paid good money for this phone so I expect it to put in more than 4 digits when I select a name!

I'm under the impression that I'm going to need to buy some specialised equipment for this task, but I'll still need to hunt around.

Any ideas?

Well, I could do that, but it would mean spending more money to buy a new handset.

did you search for hidden menues?

On my old NOKIAs I always tweaked the hidden system menus so that the manufacturer's restrictions wouldn't be applied

No, I haven't. How do I go about doing that? Or are there any links you can recommend?

A google for "Hidden Nokie 8250 Menus" came up trumps. There was information on most other models, but not the 82* series. However, I may be able to apply the some of the same techniques that I found. I'll need to have a good try later on.
