[Resolved] is there a site for NEW newbies?

hi all!
I am so new at all of the backend scripting. I have tried several tut's on php. I don't even know what I need to get started!! 🙁
For my first (real) project I would like to create a (flash) page that people submit thier email addy and it goes to the database.
Say for a "new site launch notify" type thing. Then grab all the email addy's and send out a mass email.
I have tried cold fusion out, but I have heard that php is more widely.....available?

To summarize:
1. what do I need to be able to do anything/run scripts/database
2. good tutorial places

ya, I have looked around and found that I need this:
winmysqladmin (mysql)?
and i installed that. Ok, now what do i need? I can't do anything or find anything that the tutorials are saying to do.

Then I (think) I read somewhere that I need this:?

apache2triad1.1.3

I downloaded that, but haven't installed. Do I need this to do anything?

ok, I know that I need the apache server. What's the difference if I have the server and the apache triad that I downloaded?
Once I have it installed, what do I have to do to run it?
I am getting kinda frustrated, I really want to learn this, but I have no idea on even the most basic of things. All the tutorials start on like step 3. I need something that starts on step 0.

i don't know about phpTriad, but with foxserv it will install everything and make sure everything is installed as a service and everything will start upon booting of the machine, simple as that

so I can un install the tirad, and install the foxserv.
What does this contain?

So far I have gathered that the mysql, php, and apache are 3 separate things that I need to download.

The foxerv is the apache server correct?
I downloaded php-4.3.2 Is that the right version. I am on a win2000/XP machine.

I am really sorry for being such a pain in the a**. I honestly don't mean to be difficult. I just really have no clue.

Foxserv is an "installer" that will install PHP (the programming language), mysql(a database), apache (the webserver), and a couple other things like Perl, Python, etc...

Simply run the installer and all will be well....

As pathetic as it sounds, I have gotten TONS more accomplished so far in the past 10 min than I have all day in figuring this all out.
One last question, and I will leave you alone....prolly not for good though (sorry) 🙁

When searching how to do things. Like create the pages and whatnot that my flash/html sites will talk to. I need to search for php tutorials right? Or do i need more of mysql tutorials?

it really depends on what you want to do, if you don't need database interaction, you won't likely need mysql examples, but you are probably working with forms and variables with flash/html and that is where PHP will be needed, so yes you will need more PHP tut's than mysql

It has tons of tutorials on everything. You can find a lot of php and mysql tutorials. All the way from setting everything up to advanced programming.

Another PHP installer that I personally use is phpDev. It installs phpMyAdmin, MySQL, php 4.2.3, Apache, and some other stuff. In fact, all you need to do to run your own server would be to install that, go to the directory, then \www\public\ and place your files there. Run the Apache server, type in http://YOUR IP/public/ and you have a server up.
