[Resolved] IP Address

Hey guys I'm using the following code:

<?
echo $REMOTE_ADDR;
echo $_SERVER['REMOTE_ADDR'];
?>

Neither one is echoing anything; what's wrong??? Running PHP 4.2.3

Several possibilities. Two I can think of: your server doesn't support this (doubtful) and the client is behind a proxy server, load balancer, etc ...

Well actually I'm the host and the client; I had a friend try because I thought that there might be a conflict between both hosting and being the user. He had the same problem; nothing showed up. Is there something in php.ini I need to change? Is it my version of PHP? Any help appreciated. 😉

You must enable register_globals otherwise you will have to use the array $HTTP_SERVER_VARS to access these values.

Tosh! He says he's running v 4.2.3, and the $_SERVER superglobal was instituted in 4.1.0 ...

What webserver are you running, Scuba?

From my understanding, and I don't claim to be a profession PHP deleveloper .. but 'superglobal' (a.k.a automatic global, variable) simply means that its available thoughout a whole script.

I had the same problem setting up PHP 2.3.x on Windows 2000 under IIS and had to enable this feature in the php.ini file to work.

Again, I could be wrong, but this is what I did, and it worked for me.

Also, the script written might have needed this, or coded diffrently.

I turned on REGISTER_GLOBALS and it worked! Thanks for the help! It was driving me crazy. 😃

Glad it worked, although, if there was stuff that changed post 4.1.x, you might want to check it out, could be a security thing.
