Apache's Content Negotiation

Hello I was wondering how to use the Apache HTTP Server's Content Negotiation feature with .htaccess. The manual wasn't helpful too me.

The whole idea is so that I can access http://www.palominoweb.com/contact.php with http://www.palominoweb.com/contact.

I have tried saving a file .htaccess in the top directory with the following text:

URI: foo

URI: foo.php
Content-type: text/plain

But it didn't work. Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated! 😃

Content negotiation has nothing to do with the example. Content negotiation allows the server to deliver alternative data based on the browser's "media type, languages, character set and encoding" preferences, as the manual says.

Thanks for the link but it wasn't what I was looking for. An example of what to put in a .htaccess file would server more use than documentation as I could work out how the example works myself.

I am on a paid host and the hostmaster said that "We support content negotiation defined with htaccess files in the relevant folders".
