I've just a bought a book on PHP by Rasmus Leedorf (spelling?). But now I don't think it will be any use to me.
I bought it because all the message boards I like seem to be done in PHP. I work in Internet communities as a moderator so I would like to be building community applications that relate directly to my users needs.
Can I use PHP to build applications on a Windows machine? The book seems to be saying you need to be running a Linux machine with Apache. It directs you to http://gtk.php.net if you want to build client side stuff but that site doesn't seem to have anything I can use on it.
I've searched on google and that and it's only confused me further. I'm starting to feel like php is an exclusive priesthood that I am not eligible for.
