Zipping Files and Dirs in PHP

Hi all
I'm trying to work out how to zip a directory and email the zip file to a specific recipient. I've read some tutorials on this, but am obviously missing something because I can't seem to understand how it works.

My directory contains x number of php generated html files, and a sub directory containing a stylesheet and images. Can anyone help me work out how to add all this into one zip file and attach to an email.

Sorry - I'm a bit new to this side of things.

did you try to run a shell command on this? (supposing you're on a linux box) something like exec('tar ??? ./* > sendmail ???');

otherwise: there's a tar/gzip/zip library for php avaliable at www.phpconcept.net (english/french)

if you need direct SMTP delivery of mails (with a MIME attachment), you could check out my webmailer at http://software.unclassified.de/wms (not current, but mime/smtp libraries have not much changed) (german UI, english source comments)

Thanks Lonely Pixel. Been playing with that, and got it almost working, only when I try to create the archive, it fails. I don't think I quite understand what the aut-start file is.
Any help appreciated.

hmm, don't know... sorry
i didn't have to do very much with that library yet. i'm planning to implement it into my WMS file manager, but there's still some months work to do until then.
