Don't Laugh main.php?x=main2.html

Hi,

I'm a beginner when it comes to PHP, such a newbie that I almost dared not to post this in the newbie forum at PHP builder. you'll laugh at me, I'm sure.

I've made easy scripts before and I'm fairly good at configuring things to my liking as long as I know where to start.

My dilemma now is that I want to reformat my site so that I don't have to use IFrames or frames anymore but PHP and layers instead. I'm sick of seeing iframes cutting the page and adding additional scrollbars. I've already made a main.php file which has layers, but I don't really know what to PHP to run where I for instance want main2.html to show.

Bottom line I want to type in the url ../.../main.php?x=main2.html to show my main.php but with main2.html on a layer and the same so that if I link to main.php?x=about.html, the about page will show in the main.php template. I'm not quite ready to script the entire site in PHP just yet, and as far as I could tell this could be sorted out fairly easy... I've tried a couple of things but will refrain from telling you what, to not make a complete fool of myself.

Oh and I also want main.php to show main2.html as a default

Any help or pointers to sites that DON'T teach you php from scratch(I've been to those and I know how to send mail with PHP and connect to MySQL) but are more related to what I'm asking for would be greatly apprecciated Especially the first

Now what do I add if I want default $content to be main2.html?

Nah, had some trouble figuring that one out but it all worked out once I defined main2.html in it's own variable.
Here's for any future reference

$page="main2.html";
$content=$_GET['x'];  

if ($_GET['x'] == "") $content = $page; 
else $content=$_GET['x'];  

include($content);

it woulda worked my way, but i forgot to quote the value, you can still do it and take that extra line out

if ($_GET['x'] == "") $content = main2.html;

should be

if ($_GET['x'] == "") $content = "main2.html";

if (!($content=$_GET['x'])) { $content="main2.html"; }
include ($content);

Dunno if that'd work, but I'm working on being lazier than planetsim ... 😉

This include system seems to work, but doing this allows every one to access all the files there are stored under you main folder, what ever it's a password file, a todo or anything else..... You need to disable that function, and i have done that on my page like this:

	include $_GET["center"];
    }
    else
    {
    include "404.php";

If the user nothing have declared, php automatic declare main.php to be displayed. If the user try to access (via the url: http://www.truti.com/index.php?center=programming.php) something there not are difined in the if sentence, php will automatic declare 404.php to be displayed!

😉 I may be blonde, but at least I figured that one out all by my lonesome: It still wouldn't work though. For some reason I got a warning that main2.html couldn't be found.

but it was all fixed, like I said in my previous post, when I wrote this php defining main2.html

$page="main2.html"; 
$content=$_GET['x'];   

if ($_GET['x'] == "") $content = $page;  

else $content=$_GET['x'];   

include($content);

And if it's working I'm not complaining😉 Thanks for all the help. All fixed since yesterday😉
