multiple inserts into database?

I'm trying to figure out a way to insert multiple fields into the same database and table from the same page.

I just want like 5 forms with the same thing, because i'll have to kind of 'mass add' rows to my table and i want to avoid having to do each one individually.

But also, if I leave a form blank, I don't want it to insert anything from that form into a table..

Does any of that make sense? I hope I'm not rambling too much.

If someone could help me out with this I would really appreciate it.

I guess that you mean multiple ROWs and not multiple fields. Some dbms have a method of doing multiple inserts. Mysql for instance has what is called extended inserts - check the manual if that is applicable.

As for empty form fields, this sort of validation should occur in the business logic. So check for empty fields before doing the inserts. If NULLs should be prohibited universally, then place constraints on the fields themselves for data integrity.

I tried searching around the manual but I cant really find anything that explains how to use extended insert.

It seems from reading the manual I have to use INSERT DELAYED ?

Could someone possibly give me an example of how to insert multiple rows? Or maybe try to explain it better than the manual so us newbies can understand it?

So you would chain the rows together -

INSERT INTO test
VALUES ('a',1), ('b', 2), ('c', 3)
