PHP 4.3.2 problems

I am new to php , i just bought a book PHP and MYsql Web Development... turns out php 4.0.4pl comes on the accompanying CD with the book. i didnt install that version because i read that theirs some kinda security problem with the register_globals thing... Anyways i installed php4.3.2 and begun using the book to learn my way tru now a few things .. the code doesnt work as its indicated in the book ..has it changed that much from 4.0.4 to 4.3.2? can someone direct me to a pdf manual or a book that can help me here ... the site i want to create will be for takin orders and delicate information so im keeping away from 4.0.4 because of the security risk... i want to learn php my what can i do ..im lost ... i need a manual or something that can help me .. i know nothing about php...

If you downloaded the newest version, I'm pretty sure you knew about this site. But, maybe you didn't know that you can find all sorts of manuals to all the different parts to PHP on it. It's not a "guide", but if you know what you're looking for, you can find it here: http://www.php.net
