FULLTEXT search

hi, i'm using fulltext search in a database.
my problem is.

i have a field in wich i have the word 'cars'
if i search for 'car', i get no results.

what i ask is if there's any way to make the fulltext search with 'LIKE', or other way to make this work.

i saw that post before, but it does not answer my question, what i get from that is that it isn't possible

here's the example:

"SELECT * FROM loja where MATCH (nome, texto, produtos, servicos, keywords, morada) AGAINST ('%$keyword%') ORDER BY nome ASC"

example:

i have i one record in the field keywords has the keyword 'cars'.

i search for 'car' -> 0 results

'%' does not work here
