Mod_rewrite help: subdomain point to php script

Hello everyone,

I been trying to figure this out all day and it's driving me crazy. I have read the mod_rewrite doc and that hasn't helped me ... I must be having a long brain fart or just dumb.

I bee trying to figre out how to do this:

http://USERNAME.domain.com

to point to

http://www.domain.com/script.php?user=USERNAME

The have another script as well that lists the buddies of that user ... but I am not sure how I would use that script as a sub-domain as well.

for example

http://www.domain.com/buddies.php?user=USERNAME

Can any one help me out with this? I am really confused.🙁

what happens now when you go to [url]http://username.domain.com,[/url] is there a page there you can view

nothing happens. I get an 404 error.

I own the server so editing certain files shouldn't be a problem, I am justing have a heard time to get what I need done.

I am not a mod_rewrite wiz like some people ... I am just hoping someone with that knowledge will come around to help me out.
