Password

Does anyone know where I can find a script to email a registered user thier password if they have forgotten it?

Or can anyone help me figure out how to do it?

I am using PHP (obviously) and MySQL.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

step 1) query the database and get the user's information http://www.php.net/mysql

step 2) pack the body of the email into a variable

step 3) send the email http://www.php.net/mail

I was able to successfully Query the MySQL database and email the result but the password was scrambled.

Any other ideas?

are you use the crypt() function on the passwords before you insert the value into you mysql database?
Then you got a problem, cause there is no decrypt function, since crypt() uses a one-way algorithm. On the other hand you can create a new password function.

1. make the user enter ther e-mail and username
2. send a mail to that user with a change password link
3. create a page where the user change password (the link in the mail)
4. add some sort of security function to the change password link, like a password value. Eg.: www.yourdomain.com/changepassword.php?user=[e-mail]&pass=1234

NOOO it is badly example, doing this:

1) If user enter your nick and email , then step 2)
2) Generate a new password and send to his email with autorization, this example:
Please click on the link if you like to have a new password:
http://doamin.ee/new_password.php?nick=IBSN&e-mail=[e-mail]&password=qwert12345

if he click on this link, then he redirect on new_password.php then step 3

3) If nick and email validle and using on database, then step 4

4) If password is not null then update the database where nick and email is...
