$_GET and printing the value

Hi there!

Sorry to bring the $_GET and querystring question up, but i am having diffculty with it still!

I have looked on the net for advice and looked and the threads on this, and other forums, but it seems to be a unique problem.

When i code <?php echo($GET['name']); ?> the page displays the value of "name"....
Now if i try to write <?php echo("Hello, $GET['name']"); ?> the page displays nothing!

This is really bugging me now as it seems i can only display the variable if there is no text surrounding it!

Please help if you can!

I am using Apache 2.0.47 (Win32) and php 4.3.2 locally on my machine!

Problem is that PHP only allows variables to be inserted in a double quoted text and you are using an array element.

Remember, $_GET is not a a variable, but an array.

There are two solutions for this:

1) Assign the element's value to a var first:

<?php
$name = $_GET['name'];
echo("Hello, $name");
?>

2) Use concatenation:

<?php
echo("Hello, " . $_GET['name']);
?>
