[Resolved] No post mode specified?

Sometimes when i (or someone else) try('s) to post i get error "No post mode specified" (or something similar) first i thought that i have to specify a topic for the message, but i get that error sometimes even when i have putted some topic for the message and after i hit "back" and submit the message again it works. Is this normal? How do i fix it if not normal?

I'm total newb in PHP, but this is from phpbb2's posting.php i don't know is this the file that has the info needed, but in the end there is something about "no post mode"

No i have 2nd problem that really should get fixed ASAP(the first prob. too of course, but this has to be fixed first) 'cause the problem is that when i try to go to my forum i get white page with "phpBB : Critical Error

Could not connect to the database "

and i don't think i did any changes to settings when i was at the forum earlier today and even IF i did i couldn't have done anything that would cause this so any ideas what would be the problem?

a could not connect to the database is in the line of code:

mysql_select_db("dbname")
$link = mysql_connect("localhost", "username","password",) or die("Could not connect to the database");

somewhere along the line either the database name has changed in that line (probobly something like config.php) or that the database has become unavailable, just check your settings and try again..

hmm this is my config.php:

except of course "user name" is not my real user name and same for "password" 🙂

and this is from /phpBB2/includes/db.php:

so am i missing something? but there is maybe a possibility that the database has become unavailable" 'cause i got hosts "page not found couple times when i tried to go there from my sites link.. :/

if you notice in the config.php
it says auto-generated. meaning just that. i dont know whether its auto-generated at the installation of the forum or not, if so then that file is missing the db name.

type in the dbname and try again

oh boy, i think i made the mistake when i installed the forum...i'm not sure, but i maybe left dbname field blank in the install screen 'cause i tried the names i could think of(or if the field has to be filled then i have just forgottn it) and didn't help at all, but if that is the case why did it take couple days to this problem to appear? bah i could of course install the forum again, but then i would loose the messages that was posted, but that's not a big problem 'cause there was only 2 registered members me and my friend and we had about 16 messages total, but still it would be little embarrassing y'know. i did take a db back up from the configurations(yesterday) so i don't have to change the settings again at least not much, but i'm guessing it wont save messages and forum categories etc. 🙁

im pretty sure that it wont matter, just enter your database name in there and it should work. just try it 🙂 you never know!!

If you are saying that i should just write anything i want as the db name like "bb2" it doesn't work i tried and still same critical error. 🙁

maybe a re-install is needed, aslong as youve made sure that the exact dbname is written in that space,

also, the error, find out what line its on and paste the code for the section of the file where the error is ocurring, we'll try to save it yet!!

erm...why do i have to make sure that the exact dbname is written in that space, If i can put anything i want to that space?

and if the line is in the config.php i did already post it earlier.
and how could i find out what line it's on?

that space is where the database name goes that contains the tables the phpbb uses. if it is wrong then the forum will not work..

Like i said before i'm total newb in php, is database something that exists in phpBB2 folder before submitting the install screen (in that case you can't name it anything you want when installin)or is it something you create when you submit the install screen meaning you can name it anything you want, if the last one is the correct answer then i don't have to make sure that the exact dbname is written in that space 'cause i'm just creating it? I'm so confused...🙁

the database is usually mysql, and it is where all your posts are stored, so you have to get the name of your sql database, unless you have more than 1. and then type in the name into that space in config.php

bah, i tried all of the different db names that are in folder: phpBB2/db
and nothing happened so i'm guessing theres nothing i can do except re-install?

phbb2 does not create the database for you, you should already have one assigned to you when you got your website hosted..
