Output of a query only 100 characters

Sorry to bother all of you, I am reaaaally new on this, (php, mysql, etc). I am trying to make my own database for a personal project, I am using a linux box with redhat with apache and php (all working perfect). To develop the webpage I found out that dreamweaver mx is very friendly and does a lot of the hard work for you. Right now I am only trying a search page of a database for jokes! , I manualy introduce jokes with Mysql CC (windows based) to do things quicker. Ok, right to the point, i dont what to take so much of your time but when call the result page after the seach page, the table only showes 100 characters of the joketext , what this could be, i cant find any filters or something similar, is the problem on the server side? or on the page itself?. Thankx...

ok problem solved, now that you mentioned, the text column was set to varchar and not to text 🙂. I i have long jokes but the "enter" or the next line is not showed, so all the text is one big text string, how can i fix this

oh ,and thanks dalecosp.... you show me the light... this joke database funny but it is a good way to get some practice and then go to a next level, again now, how can i make the text look nicer for the reader, i can see al the text but on a big string...

Well, to some extent that depends on what the real problem is. And it depends on how you are displaying it ... I have to assume we mean in an HTML document ... for example, in the mysql client, there's nothing I can do to help !! :eek:

Does the text have newline characters in it? If so, try

echo [man]nl2br[/man]($text_var);

Otherwise, try perhaps [man]wordwrap/man, although I guess you could just put the jokes in a table or table cell, or use CSS to create margins, or ... ??

Hopefully there's some guidance here....

Well, i have to say that i am sorry, i am not giving you details . The output is made on a table, with 3 col and as many rows as jokes, the col are for id, joke text and owner, i will add a new one for date. So i have a nice table with the jokes, the only problem is that on the joke text cell, the output is a big chuck of text. Do i have to add manualy a next caracter or when i creat the "input jokes page" the html code will be transfered to it. I am guessing what if i use a text area text form instead of the simple, will the form trasnfer to the variable the html code as part of the text?
