[Resolved] [Resolved] a questions belonging apache and isp

hi all,

ive got a webspace with enabled cgi's ( perl, c, c++ ) and php.
its an apache 1.3.27.

is there any way to install mysql on my website-server ?
do i just have to upload it? how can i start the mysql-service?

can i even do it on my own or do i have to ask my provider to do this for me?

Unless they are smoking some serious crack and have given you root level access to the server, the answer is no.

Sure, you can install either that or Postgresql, but you'll have to do it from source, and in your own directory.

You do you have shell access, don't you?

I dont know, if I have a shell account.

so far i only know my ftp-login.

ive downloaded WINSCP3 for ssh, but when i try to log to my server, it asks me for a session-id-passsword which i dont know...

could you please give me a tip what to do?

You've got PHP and cgi access, so write a script that takes a form and runs it as the apache user in your home directory and go from there.

The other option is to ask them to install the RPMS you need (MySQL or Postgresql) and see if they will.
