auto backup

Is it possible to have PHP backup your database automatically say on the laod of a certain page? (say a login or index page) and save it to another server?

I just recently had a massive server crash and lost an entire database whih meant the site is truly screwed.

any help please?!

you sure can with an include, however, if the db is large, it may slow your index page down quite a bit

a better way would be to go to google and look up "run php page with cron"

that way you can have a cron job that runs a php script on whatever interval you would like, every minute, hour, day, whatever...

are you on nix or win and are you hosting it or do you have a 3rd party host, and if so what is your host

cron/crontab is really pretty simple, but for some reason many people seem perplexed by it. At a shell, look at it's man page:

man 5 crontab

first thing i would do is contact your host and see if they allow cron, if so, ask if they will set it up, if not, search google like i said in prev. post, there are many tuts out there to help ya

Ok, small problem, my server does not allow cron.

Any other way of doing it? Possibly through PHP?

could i get it to create a schema of the database and save it as a text file on anothers erver (say a geocities one)

you can do just what you want, but you will have to have it in an include file that gets access fairly often, that would do what you want

but like i said before, if the dump is big, it will hinder the page it is on, so i would put it on a page that is access fairly often, but not the index page persay
