Defaul value in file field in form

I am trying to use a 'file field' in a form corresponding to a field in a table in a database. i want to be able to set the default value of the file field to match the field in the database (so the user can modify the entry). However, I can't figure out how to specify the default value to be displayed in the file field.

hum...that's too bad...

oh well, i can live with that. I will just make another text field to display the field from the database.

Is there anyway i can lock the contents of the file field? forcing the user to use the 'Browse' button and not allowing them to edit the result afterwards?

If DISABLED and READONLY don't do what you would like, you can always use JavaScript to prevent the field from changing. Altough I'm not sure if it really works well with a type="file" input tag.
Eg: onChange of the file input tag, but this might have severe performance issues and/or might prevent the users from using the Browse button as well (since this also changes the value of the file input tag).
