Won't pull string from URL

Hi, for some reason whenever I use a URL with a string in it going to my site(which is hosted on my own computer) it will not pull the string out of the URL and it says "Notice: Undefined variable: string in C:\file.php on line 36". It always used to work, but then I didn't use it for a couple months, I was wondering if there was anything that I can do that would fix this. Thanks a lot.

If you are trying to use $elvis to refer to the "graceland" part of:

http://www.domain.com/index.php?elvis=graceland

rather than $_GET['elvis'], then your problem is that your host has turned off the register_globals feature that makes $elvis work.

For security reasons, you are being asked to use $_GET['variable'] instead of $variable.
