how to make drop down according to previous dropdown's info?

hello, i have a few drop down menus.

The information in dropdown 2 is based on the information in drop down 1.

for example.

drop down 1, i select cars. drop down 2 has geo metro, ford focus, and mazda protege.

if I were to select trucks from drop down 1, my new options in drop down 2 would be ford f150, dodge ram, and chevy s10.

I don't even know how to begin searching for this question, and i see nothing about it in my 'visual quickpro guide to php and mysql'

You should take a look at JavaScript, because there is no way how to do that in PHP ( because you know, PHP is server side scripting language, not client side ).
