installing PHP on a local host

I am learning php & I first want to install it on my local host (my Windows server) so I can build my website on my computer without the hastle of FTPing all my files.

I am using WebMonkeys tutorials (the tutorial is here http://hotwired.lycos.com/webmonkey/00/44/index4a_page7.html ) & the link they give on the Apache website to download the Windows binary file is broken. I downloaded a zip file from apache.org, but I'm not sure if it is what I need.

I want to download the least amount of files possible to allow me to operate php on my local host. I also heard from someone that I need a firewall. I have a cable connection so I'm always connected to the internet.

So can anyone help me? 😕 Do they know where I can get the files I need & how to get a firewall? Thank you!!!

then goto www.php.net and download php then goto mysql.com and download mysql

goto any warez site to download a firewall, you should have a firewall any how, critical thing in my opinion for everyone if they spend anytime on internet. if you have router configured correctly then no one can access your webserver from outside any how, if no router then configure firewall to not allow access to your webserver.

go to zend.com and download zend studio ...

the server software includes apache 1.3.26 and php 4.3.2
you will also need to download mysql 4.0.14 from mysql.com

oh and you must get yourself a firewall and and make securing your pc a way of life !

i use mccafe firewall / anti virus
