[Resolved] way noobie question

Hello!
From a longtime web developer who designs sites graphically but does know html, cgi and some javascript, this is a GIANT leap! Patience will be greatly appreciated and if there ever is a way that I can lend MY expertise to one of you geniuses, please don't hesitate to ask me.

I have installed phpdev423, and everything works as far as I know. In my new role as a sponge, all the docs and such are great in the fact that they tell you exactly what to type, however, !with absolutely NO programming experience I am dumbfounded on where to type the programming directions?! Do I bring up the ms-dos prompt? I have tried that but to little or no avail. I know its something stupid by the way I feel. :o) Now, I have learned already how to use the phpmyadmin console but am not clear on how to bring up a "console" for things like installing phpNuke, postNuke, whatever. I thought maybe the apache monitor would do it but alas.

my first chore will be to convert our regional portal at http://smnet.net plus scores of other sites so I have got to get a workflow together. THank you in advance!

Firstly you do not need to use any Config section to install scripts.

PHPMyAdmin is a good tool to use for using Databases then using the actual prompt that you are given. So as a newbie id suggest using that then maybe learning how to use the prompt a little later on..

Secondly to have your scripts place them in the the htdocs directory. If it doesnt exist you may need to check your config file for your Apache Server. With PHPDev it maybe in a readme file

Most scripts will come with some sort of install.php file so when copied to the directory i said. Go to the file and it should install the application.

Thank you, However when you say "learn to use the prompt later" what "prompt" would you be talking about and how do I bring it up? Are you talking about the msdos prompt? which means that I have to learn some dos to be effective?

I pick up very quickly once the hammer dents my head

PHP is more of a Unix/Linux Language. When i mean prompt i meant the prompt for MySQL. This would make you manually create tables, its much harder to use then PHPMyAdmin if you havent learn SQL. Thats why i said later.

The screen on a Win system would look exactly the same as the DOS screen, but you arent required to know DOS.

Thank you...It would seem that my phpdev installation did not install this. Can I now install the full version of MySQL or will it mess things up?

In backtracking to installed programs I have:
MySQL Servers & Clients 3.23.55 AND
MySQL Servers & Clients 4.0.14b

Do I need to take one of these off? which one?
