Putty into Redhat 8.0 Box

I cannot "puddy" into (puddy redhat ip address)my Redhat 8.0 box from my W2k box. The only reason that I can think of is that my router assigns both machines an IP by DHCP. Not sure if that is the reason or not. Does anyone know if that would cause it? I am using a Linksys router. Can I set it up for assigned addresses?

can you explain w/o using puddy/putty, what do you want to do

As long as you know the IP of the redhat box, you can use it in PuTTy. On the redhat box you must have sshd running, and you must have port 22 open through the firewall.

I am new here but had a situation simular to what I think he is describing. The server would serve static pages but MySQL, BIND etc.. had failed so it could not connect to the database. At this point I tried to shell into account and could not connect to the IP?

I had several people look at it and we never did find out the cause and no one had seen it before. Had the DC reboot the server and everything was good to go again, may try that to solve your problem.

Can you ssh into the redhat box *from the redhat box?
Can you ping the RH box from the Winbox?
What about TcpWrappers? Is the IP address of the winbox allowed?
Is the RH box firewalled (see Doug G's post)?
