How can I Enable Mutli-Byte String...???

I would like to enable Mutil-Byte String modules in PHP 4.2.2

I have seen the manual in PHP.net...
But I can hardly unterstand the speaking...
Coz I would like to display Chinese character on the web by using PHP.

Can anyone help me???

The mbstring functions must be installed with PHP. You'll need to tell PHP that you want them at install time.
