Does anyone know of a slow down utility for the internet. like for testing. say i wanted to test the speed of a site under a 56k modem yet i didnt have one. i had something faster. does anyone know of a utility like that?
hmmm, not sure, but in some text editors, like Macromedia HomeSite, there is a tool called "Document Weight" and that will tell you how heavy the doc is, w/ images, w/o images, download with 56K, slower, etc....
One suggestion might be to employ bandwidth throttling on the test server; if the server isn't serving stuff at more than 56kbps, you're not going to receive it any faster! 'Course, it does mean tinkering with your test server configuration to move it up and down, but it would probably be more reliable than grafting additional software to your connection.
A Google on "[your server here] bandwidth throttling" should turn something up (for Apache I get 2820 hits).
